Last week, the European Commission has announced Google practices has disrupted the competitive market and imposed a fine of a record $ 5 billion for breaching EU antitrust rules.
EU has claimed that Google has been involved in anti-competitive practices, by requiring the manufacturers to pre-install the Google search engine and Google Chrome browser. Margrethe Vestager, the EU’s competition commissioner has said that only 10 % of users installed the browser other than the Google Chrome and only 1 % of users have downloaded the competitive search app.
The European Commission has said “Google must now bring its practices “effectively to an end within 90 days or face penalty payments of up to 5% of the average daily worldwide turnover of Alphabet”
Under the EU fine, Google has announced that the Android Developers Summit for this year will be held on November 7th and 8th in Mountain View, California. In comparison to the Google annual, I/O conference Android Developer Peak is relatively a small event and won’t have many presentations and announcements as we observe in Google I/O.
