Thanos’ creator Jim Starlin said that the directors Joe and Anthony Russo cut 30 minutes of the mad titan’s background from Avengers: Infinity War. Starlin said that the fans would have seen so much about the Thanos if the things had gone differently. Thanos’ ambition to wipe out half the universe to build a perfectly balanced galaxy originated in his past, and therefore his past was recreated in the movie. While in the movie we only got to see his love for his daughter, Gamora and his ambition to wipe out half the universe only. It’s speculated that the Studios will add that part in the extended cut of the film, as their 10-year celebrations.
Avengers: Infinity War saw the Mad titan going full on out against Avengers to collect all the Infinity Stones. He had already appeared in some post credit scenes and Avengers movie, while fans were already aware of Thanos invading the earth would probably be the case, but the reasons were unknown because as we had seen already the movies don’t copy the comics.
His intentions weren’t apparent until the very end where it was necessary, but the Studios didn’t give the reasons as to why he wanted to eradicate half the universe. In the comics, Thanos falls in love with death who previously had met him, to impress her, he goes berserk and gets hold of all the Infinity Stones and eradicates half of the universe, but that doesn’t seem the case with the film. And therefore Starlin probably hinted at the extended cut because some backdrop at Thanos’ past was something fans were waiting to hear about.
We still don’t know what will go in the extended cut if there’s a one, to begin with. Also, the directors and the Studio will decide what goes into the extended cut and not Starlin. The fans were expecting to see Thanos’ reasons build up to his ambitions. But for now, fans will have to make out for themselves from Infinity War and wait for Avengers 4 to take a deeper dig at Thanos’ past.
