Avengers Infinity War is one of the most successful movies however along with that it is the one that has an intriguing storyline which balances more than forty characters in 3-hour long thrilling journey. The credit for creating such a marvellous action drama goes to writers of the movie. Each of the story arc in Infinity war was developed intricately which led to the creation of such a captivating screenplay. However, the major arc was the search of soul stone. After watching the movie some fans had a query that why the location of soul stone was kept mystery from the very beginning of MCU.
Why Was Location of Soul Stone A Mystery?
So in the recent interview, screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, the minds behind the Marvel’s super-hit flick’s story revealed the reason why the location of soul stone was kept a mystery.
“Not specifically to torment you or make you wrong, but we wanted it somewhere very meaningful to Thanos, and pure to the movie so that it wasn’t ‘we’re going over here to revist…ya know’,” Markus said. The screenwriters also mentioned the fact that they did read some fan theories and they like them, the writers also mentioned some of the theories as ‘very clever’. But to the question as why did the writers didn’t reveal the location of soul stone or didn’t even drop hints towards it the writers said that the fans knew the location of all the other stones or had a definitive hint of the location of the other stones and as part of effective screenwriting they had to maintain some mystery of the location of at least one stone.
“We already had that problem right? You knew a lot of places where the stones were so if you knew every one of them there was going to be much less mystery, and just on a screenwriting level, it was really important to us to have a mystery,” McFeely. “What does Gamora know that you all don’t know? It’s fun, there’s a whole thing where every letter spells out Thanos’ name, like why didn’t we think of that!” said the writers. Accepting that some of the theories were pretty awesome McFeely said “It does not affect what we write, It sort of charms us if we read it, but boy you just can’t do fan service that way right?”
Markus mentioned the theories which revolved around Earth and the stone’s probable location, he said that Earth may be a prominent part of the MCU, but it’s not the only part.
“Sometimes you read it and go ‘that’s really quite clever…much too clever. I mean also the…I’m thinking of the theory that said it was in Wakanda. Like, they can’t all be on Earth. I know we’re a very important planet but we’re not the most. You can’t have all of them here and then we have the opportunity to go to space and… What was it, the original He-Man movie where they ran out of money and the rest of it takes place in a parking lot in Encino. Like we have the money. We can go up there.” Markus said.
