Time flies by quickly. It seemed only yesterday when phase 1 movie Iron Man was released. Marvel phase 3 is now coming to an end with only a few films left. If you thought nothing could match the legacy of the first 3 phases, you are in for a surprise that is if marvel’s inside sources are to be believed. Marvel’s is gearing up for its post infinity war phase 4.
Marvel phase 4 would be kick-started by the sequel to massively popular Spiderman-homecoming. According to producer Amy Pascal, the homecoming sequel would start immediately after the events of infinity war sequel. Guess that means Spiderman would still be in school and Tom Holland would get to play the friendly neighbourhood hero again. The sequel is titled Spiderman-Far From Home and takes our beloved hero on a global adventure.
Sources say that projects like Black Widow, Doctor Strange and the Eternals are in the works. Guardians of the Galaxy is also reported to be a part of Phase 4 of Marvel. In spite of the sudden firing of James Gunn, the third film in the Guardians of Galaxy franchise won’t be the last. So there is no need to panic. Although it might get delayed. There are also plans for a guardian’s spinoff in the works. Sources claim it will explore Rocket’s origins.Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently confirmed that Dr. Strange 2 is also under work. He also said that the studio is emotionally invested in a solo Black Widow movie. Also Captain Marvel is going to make her big debut in the MCU. Academy award winner Brie Larson has been cast for the role and the film is slated for a 2019 release.
There have been no reports about an Iron Man or a Captain America sequel which has left their fate in the Infinity War saga uncertain causing uneasiness among the fans. These fears have been further escalated by subtle hints coming from Marvel executives like Feige and Russos who claim that some stories will be coming to an end at the “unprecedented conclusion to a 22-movie overarching narrative” and that “everything has to have an end at some point in order for it to have value”.
As for Thor, the Russo brothers are claiming radical changes for his character. So it is safe to say Thor is not going to retire anytime soon. Also Captain Marvel is expected to play a big role in the fourth phase of Marvel.
Despite all the gloom surrounding the fates of Captain and Iron Man, there is a silver lining that Disney, which owns the Marvel studios has scheduled multiple release dates for untitled Marvel Studios films. These include: May 1, July 31, and November 6, 2020; February 12, May 7, and November 5, 2021; and February 18, May 6, and July 29, 2022.
Which means the Marvel Cinematic Universe is not going anywhere atleast for the next decade or so.
As of now rest is all speculation.
