After a long spell of waiting, the Google Assistant continued the conversation is finally out. Continued Conversation is a server-side patch that allows you to maintain a natural flow of conversation with the Assistant. You can end the conversation by sung phrases like “Thank You” or “Stop”.

How Does it Work?

The way Continued Conversation works is that it remembers what you previously said, and will allow you to give the subsequent commands naturally. For example :

As you can see, you don’t need to repeat ‘Hey Google’ or ‘OK Google’ again and again for it to listen to you. The Google Assistant will keep listening for 8 more seconds after the previous commands, and if any command is given it will associate it with the previous one.
While this is not essentially a proper conversation, you can avoid the awkward situation of having to trigger Google Assistant again and again.

Just a few weeks back, Google announced multiple commands and smart commands. Now it has launched Google Assistant continued conversation. We can clearly see Google aiming to make the dialogue process with its AI as natural as possible.

The Continued Conversation is available on Google Home, Google Home Mini, and Google Home max. There is no word from Google if the feature is being rolled out to phones any time soon.
The Continued Conversation is a server-side patch and does not require you to update your Assistant app. To activate it, go to Settings => Preferences => Continued Conversation and toggle it on.

Addressing Privacy Concerns

Many of you might have some privacy concerns and Google has more than made up for it. You will still need to say ‘OK Google’ or ‘Hey Google’ to begin the conversation. The device will listen only for up to 8 seconds. Google ensures that Google Home will not hear and misuse private conversations. If you are still skeptical about it, you can turn it off from the settings.
Note that the Google Assistant Continued Conversation feature is only available for English (US). Google has promised support for other languages to be arriving soon.
