Like Riverdale, the time works a lot differently in Netflix Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Due to this, the main question that arises is, In Which Year Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been set up?

Have you seen The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina? If not, then what are you doing? It is the dark adaptation of the comic book with the same name. Kiernan Shipka is starring as Sabrina in the Netflix series. The series dropped on October 26th this year and it has already confused and haunted the life of many viewers.

Thanks to the very confusing retro aesthetics used in the show. The viewers are wondering in which year Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been set up? There are many throwbacks or scenes which takes us back to the ’60s. Also, many references are to the time of the ’70s. There’s black and white TV, transistor radios but there is no shortage of Apple product. Like, what is going on?

In Which Year Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been set up?

Is “This Year” Actually 2018?

In Episode 1, the show specifies the date of happening, “Tuesday, October 28th of This Year”. But what year was “This Year”?

“This Year” can’t be 2018 as it is Sunday on 28th October. The next 28th October comes in 2025. But the thing to notice is, the last time October 28th fell on a Tuesday was in 2014. It was the same exact date on which Chilling Adventures of Sabrina comic debuted.

So, we can assume that the series is set in the year 2014.

Like Riverdale, Story is in past but Modern Technology at Everyone’s Fingertips

Like the Archies comics, the comic of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been set up in the ’60s. While the show has maintained the retro aesthetics for the feel of the ’60s, it’s clearly not set 50 years ago.

The point is about the technology used by Harvey and Ambrose. We see Harvey’s iPhone and we also see Ambrose using a MacBook. It’s just like Riverdale where they all have Apple products but none want to own a modern car or an up-to-date TV.

But, remember we just said about the show being set in 2014? Here is the part where it gets tricky. Harvey owns an iPhone X. This is not possible as it didn’t exist in 2014. Unless the witches have got Apple’s head office bugged… wouldn’t put that past scheming opportunist Zelda tbh.

In the starting of Episode 1, Harvey was seen complaining about how slow the zombies move in 1968’s Night of the Leaving Dead.  Sabrina explains that “fast-moving zombies are a relatively new concept in horror,” which suggests that Harvey has probably been watching films from the early ’00s like 28 Days Later (2002) and Dawn of the Dead (2004).

Riverdale crossover with Ben Button

Ben from Riverdale Photo

In Episode 7, Ben Button from Riverdale came on Ms Wardwell’s door with a pizza. But if you know, Ben died recently on Riverdale. This can give us the answer to in which year Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been set up. But obviously, Ben can’t deliver pizza if he’s dead, isn’t it?

However, if we stick with the idea of the series taking in 2014, there’s no way a 12-year old Ben would be delivering pizzas in Greendale, looking like a 16-year old boy. is there? Then again, maybe Sabrina doesn’t exist parallel to Riverdale? We know that when Ben walked into Ms Wardwell’s house, she ate him alive. Can one die twice in one universe? Did he come back to life? To be honest, nothing in Greendale stays dead for long… we’ve seen that proven on Riverdale once with the dead deer in season 2, episode 7 as it passed over into Greendale.

But that is another case to be solved. Let’s just say that there is no concept of time in Greendale, like Riverdale. It’s just weird as we thought. Maybe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been set up in 2014, maybe not.

If you need us, we’ll be in Riverdale, on the other side of the Sweetwater River, where we belong. The side where everyone has iPhones and where Ben is no longer delivering our pizzas.
