Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 has finally shown us one of the best battle scenes filmed for the small screen. The episode was enthralling, captivating, intense, and nerve-wracking. I think the directors of the show have pulled a great job in filming the battle scene. It is the true epitome of great cinematography and storytelling. This article contains heavy spoilers ahead, so if you haven’t watched the episode yet, we suggest you not to read any further.
The Battle of Winterfell brought lots of casualties on both sides, and many of our beloved characters could not survive it. Listed below are the list of characters who died in the Battle of Winterfell.
When the Night King and the army of dead attacked the Winterfell, at the first front was the Dothraki army, and they could not hold up the fight against the dead. They easily vanished from the battle scene.
On the next front was Samwell Tarley and his Night’s Watch friend Edd Tollett. The number of ice wights was way too much to encounter which led to the death of Edd, who died saving Sam’s life.
Next to go was Lyanna Mormont, she showed a great attitude and will to fight against the dead. She even took up the fight against the giant wight who grabbed her to death, but in her dying breath she stabbed the wight in the eye with Dragonglass.
Baric Dondarrion, The Lightning Lord, was next to go down in the Battle of Winterfell. He died while saving Arya from the wights, and he sacrificed himself to protect her.
The next character to die in the Battle of Winterfell was Theon Greyjoy. He fought bravely, and his valiant efforts were enough to protect the Bran (Three-eyed Raven) from any deadly zombies. But when the Night King and other white walkers arrived at Godswood, Theon tried to run a spear through the Night King’s body but died at the hands of the Night King.
Next in the episode to die was Jorah Mormont, who died in an attempt to save Daenerys Targaryen from the herd of wights when she fells off from her dragon. He succumbed to his wounds and died at the scene.
One of the fascinating death of the episode was the death of the Night King. When he reached the Godswood, he first killed Theon, and then he marched towards Bran. He was about to pull his ice sword to kill off Bran, but Arya came in heroic style and killed the Night King with her dagger.
The next character to die was Melisandre, Red Priestess, who guided Arya to make a move in her prophecy words, by saying – What to do we say to God of Death? This boosted up Arya to defy her death and took a stand by saying “Not Today.” Melisandre dies after fulfilling her purpose and walks into an open field and mystically disappears.
