Selection day is another in a series of investments made by Netflix in Indian stories. The series is second in an effort by streaming services to reach to a wider audience. Based on Aravind Adiga’s novel of the same name, ‘selection day’ is a coming of age drama about two brothers who are raised by their strict, obsessive father to be a star cricket player in India. This comes in direct competition with Amazon Prime, that won hearts of the audience and starred Vivek Oberoi in the main lead.

It is a moving story about ambition, love, acceptance and finding your own path. The series stars Mahesh Manjrekar, Ratna Pathak Shah, Rajesh Tailang and introduces newcomers Yash Dholye and Mohammad Samad as brothers Radha and Manju Kumar.

Netflix “Selection Day” is based on a popular book, the premise is readily available. Adiga’s book is centred on Manjunath, a 14-year-old aspiring cricketer with a special talent. He remains in the shadow of his supremely talented brother Radha, and under the domineering presence of his cricket-obsessed father. Apart from cricket, Manju is fascinated by the world of CSI and by curious and interesting scientific facts. Despite his dreams and aspirations, he is yet to discover himself in totality. When he comes up against Radha’s biggest rival, someone who is more privileged and confident than he is, he is faced with decisions which change his life and the lives of people around him.
Anil Kapoor, the producer said “with selection day, Netflix is once again bringing Indian talent onto the world stage. India is a land rich with stories and we can now share these across the globe. I can’t think of a better way of bringing people together.”
