Omerta (A code of silence) in the span of 1:30 hrs talked about the mechanism of terrorists rather than their ideology behind the gruesome acts of terror. Rajkumar Rao is playing the lead as the British-Pakistani and shuddersome terrorist, Omar Saeed Sheikh. Omar being educated as shown in the movie that he was a dropout from the London School of Economics, he allowed the demons of his mind to overrule his wits as in order to take the revenge of what was happening to the Muslims in London he took this horrific step despite knowing that who is responsible for mishap. Portraying a clear picture of his deeds and mind behind all the acts of terror he accomplished in India, the movie oscillates between Omar’s training in Pakistan and Afganistan when he opted for Jihad and his fanaticism for his religion. He was in a misconception with a strong belief that he was on a God’s mission. The director made the movie little real by adding some relative documentaries from past and displaying precisely the Cold-blooded execution of Daniel Pearl but it winded up in a quite inquisitive manner as during the Taj attack Omar was shown making fake calls to the Pakistani government on behalf of Indian government which almost created a war-like situation between the two countries but it didn’t clarify what happened next.
A biography of Omar Saeed Sheikh, a British-Pakistani and most dreaded terrorist of our times, who was responsible for the kidnapping of the American tourists, abduction and gruesome execution of American Journalist Daniel Pearl and the Taj attack.
Hansal Mehta picked up a really good topic to be highlighted but failed to show the precise scrutiny of the character which was the sheer base of the movie. It focused more on the terrorist activities done by Omar Saeed Sheikh but didn’t highlight the mindset and the reason behind all this havoc he created in the world. Though the hopes weren’t doomed but yeah we were anticipating a little more. It didn’t come out to be of a great astonishment but Rajkumar Rao’s performance was truly appreciable.
