The Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi finally launched the next-gen Redmi Note series, that is, Redmi Note 7 officially in its home town China. Xiaomi recently announced the brand separation of Redmi from the parent company, and Redmi Note 7 is the first device under the Redmi brand. With the launch of new Redmi Note 7 company has introduced an all-new premium glass body design to the series. And not only this, the device comes with a dual rear camera setup carrying a 48-megapixel camera sensor.
Redmi Note 7 Design and Display –
The new Redmi Note 7 features a glass-body design which looks premium, and also it’s a “rock solid and diamond-like” durable body, company claims. The device comes with “microcrack” edge polishing process, which increases the toughness of the body. Not only this, all corners of the device has been strengthened giving more durability to the device. Company also claims that the glass used in Redmi Note 7 is four times stronger than the glass used in smartphones in the same segment.
The device comes with a thickness of 8.1mm, where 0.8mm is covered by the 2.5D Corning Gorilla 5 glass panels, which provides extra protection to the device. The device comes with a fingerprint at the back, IR blaster at the top and speaker grill at the bottom.
Redmi Note 7 is also the first smartphone in the budget segment to support the dustproof and water-resistant ratings, however, the IP ratings of the device were not revealed at the event.
The new glass body design in the Redmi series gives a refreshing look to the series and looks beautiful, and not only this, the newly introduced Black, Red and blue colour gradient look premium.
Now coming to the Redmi Note 7’s display, the first thing to notice is the all-new notch design, that is, the waterdrop design notch in the display. The device comes with 6.3-inch display with full HD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels). The device comes with narrow bezels at the top and bottom and allows aspect ratio of 19.5:9.
Redmi Note 7 Specifications –
The all-new Redmi Note 7 runs on the latest MIUI 10 based Android 9 Pie OS out-of-the-box and comes with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor coupled with 6 GB of RAM for a lag-free performance. The company showed using the AnTuTu benchmarks scores that the performance of Redmi Note 7 is even better than the device equipped with the same chipset. Talking about the storage, the device comes with three storage options – 32GB, 64GB and 128GB, expandable via microSD card.
The device is powered with a Li-ion battery with a capacity of 4,000mAh, which is pretty common in Redmi Note series. And to charge this battery the Redmi Note 7 comes with USB-C port, which is first in the series, and also supports the Quick Charge 4.0. Company claims, it would take around 2 hours and 5 minutes to charge it with a regular 10W charger that comes bundled with the device. However, the 18W fast charger will allow the device to charge to the full in just 1 hour and 43 minutes and can be purchased separately.
Redmi Note 7 Camera –
Now coming to the most interesting part, the camera department of the new Redmi Note 7. The device comes with an AI dual rear camera setup with a primary 48-megapixel sensor coupled with a secondary 5-megapixel sensor where aperture for both sensors is f/1.8. Redmi has used Samsung ISOCELL GM1 48-megapixel Ultra Clear sensor as the primary sensor, with which Redmi Note 7 camera can capture poster-level HD photos.
Talking about the front camera department, the device comes with a 13-megapixel camera sensor with a large pixel of 1.6micron which sits inside the waterdrop notch in the screen. Also, the camera is capable of taking great selfies using the AI Smart Beauty and face unlock using the AI algorithm.

The Redmi Note 7 has been launched in China today, and for now, there is no information on the availability of the device in other markets like India.
