Samsung Exynos 9820 launched with NPU & better GPU performance

Companies like Huawei and Apple have already unveiled the next-generation chipset with better performance and efficiency, where, the Korean tech giant Samsung was a little quiet at that time, but finally, Samsung unveiled its new-gen chipset with better performance, it is the Samsung Exynos 9820, which is launched in China.

The all new Samsung Exynos 9820 is manufactured using 8nm LPP FinFET process, whereas, the new gen chipset by Huawei, that is, Kirin 980, and Apple’s A12 Bionic chip comes with the 7nm process. Here, we can’t compare the engineering of both the chipset on the basis of the numbers, but you need not be an engineer to observe that Kirin 980 and A12 Bionic chipset are little better in design.

Talking more about the new Samsung Exynos 9820, the new chipset comes with two custom cores for processing power, two Cortex A75 large cores for optimal performance, and four Cortex A55 small cores for greater efficiency and also the processor chip has a tri-cluster architecture with the 4rth generation custom designed CPU cores.

Samsung Exynos 9820 was unveiled by the company with the tagline which says, “Extraordinary wisdom, born from the inside,” which clearly shows that the company has given Artificial Intelligence powers to the chipset. And for the first time in the Samsung Exynos processor chips, the NPU (Neural Processing Unit) core is being introduced which company says, offers more artificial intelligence-based computing power, which is 7 times more than its predecessor.

Other than this, the company has worked for the improved GPU performance in the new Samsung Exynos 9820, where the Mali-G76 MP12 graphics processor is given which is 35% more energy efficient and offers 40% better performance than the GPU in Exynos 9810.

If compared to the previous generation Exynos 9810, the new Samsung Exynos 9820 comes with 15% more multi-core performance, 20% more single-core performance, 10% less power consumption, and 40% better overall performance, claimed by Samsung.

Other than better performance, the new Samsung Exynos 9820 will offer better display supporting 4K resolution and photography in the smartphones, by supporting better camera sensors. As it supports sensor of up to 22MP for the front-facing camera module and the same 22MP for the rear camera. Also, supports better dual-camera setup with a maximum of a 16MP camera sensor. For video recording, the chipset supports 8K 30fps and 4K 120fps and also supports 10bit HEVC/H.264/VP9 codec. The new Samsung Exynos 9820 will be supporting the advanced facial recognition for which it comes with advanced ISP that supports up to five sensing elements, including infrared sensors. And this new support increases the probability of advanced 3D face recognition system in upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10.

Talking about connectivity, the new Samsung Exynos 9820 supports 4G LTE baseband with highest downlink Cat.20 8CA supporting peak speed of 2Gbps and uplink speed of up to 316Mbps. Also, the new chipset supports UFS 2.1/3.0 flash memory and there’s also a hardware-level PUF key management.

Samsung will be producing the new flagship Exynos 9820 by the end of this year. And the new processor chip will be powering the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10, which will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress, in the month of February, next year.
