The Chinese manufacturer Vivo launched their flagship smartphone last month – the Vivo NEX in China and today this smartphone has been launched in India. The device comes with some of the notable features like truly bezel-less display and pop-up selfie camera which makes it the first smartphone in the industry to house such a form factor.
Vivo NEX is actually the production variant of the concept phone ( Vivo APEX) which was showcased at MWC 2018 in Barcelona. The NEX isn’t just about the specs, it’s about the innovation. Here a few things that make the smartphone futuristic.
Truly bezel-less display :
The Vivo NEX sports a full-screen bezel-less display without the infamous Notch, thanks to Vivo for implementing such technology which helped the company to achieve a whopping 91.24 screen-to-body ratio. The Vivo NEX is the first smartphone in the industry to come with such an amazing display which has inspired other Smartphone makers to create some amazing products.
Pop up Front Camera
In an effort to minimize the bezels and remove that notch, Vivo has come up with a unique idea to house the front-facing camera. An 8Mp camera is hidden inside the top edge which pops out when you tap camera button and ruffles back when not in use. As per the company, it is powered by a micro-drive system along with the independent drive ICs to elevate the camera system quickly and accurately.
In-display Fingerprint Scanner
Vivo NEX is not first to the smartphone to house the in display fingerprint sensor, However, this technology was also brought by the Vivo with the X21 UD, but the company claims the Vivo NEX now has the new and improved hardware. According to Vivo, the NEX houses a 3rd-generation in-display fingerprint scanner that’s 50% better at recognition accuracy, has a broader detection area and is 10% faster with its unlock speed.

To keep the minimal bezel, the selfie camera was hidden inside the edge, the next challenge was to place the earpiece. The Vivo eliminated the use of the standard earpiece and used the piezoelectric speaker or what the company calls a ‘Screen SoundCasting Technology’ that was originally used by the Xiaomi in Mi Mix. The company claims that the piezoelectric speaker offers more powerful and better sound than regular, physical speakers.
