Xperia XZ2 Perium launch set for July 30, to cost $999
Sony is set to launch its flagship phone, the Xperia XZ2 premium on July 30. The Sony Xperia Z2 price will be a whopping $999. The phone comes with an ultra-low light sensitive camera and a razor sharp screen.
The Switch Back to 4K
Sony has never shied away from bedazzling its flagships with power and features. When the Xperia XZ first launched, it was the first phone to have a full 4K display. No other phone even came close. While it sounded great on paper, the screen itself wasn’t that much distinguishable from any other flagship, as, after a PPI of around 500, the difference between PPI stops becoming obvious. As a result, the phone had a glory no one could see.
They rectified the mistake with the release of Sony Xperia XZ2 and gave it an FHD+ resolution, making a smarter choice and spending more on things that matter. The company still wasn’t satisfied with their flagship. They wanted to be the market leaders in the display segment. So Sony announced the Xperia XZ2 Premium, a smartphone with a 5.8-inch 4K display that uses Sony’s Triluminous Display technology ( what they use for their Bravia range of TVs). With the increased screen size, the resolution makes sense.
Not just the display, the phone is brimming with performance too. The Xperia XZ2 Premium features a Snapdragon 845 SoC which is a huge upgrade over its predecessor. The phone also comes with 6 GB of high-speed RAm and 64 GB of internal storage. It also has a microSD card slot that supports up to 400GB of expanded storage.
Xperia XZ2 Premium features a 3540 mAh battery. Combined with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, it will ensure a long lasting and hassle-free experience.
The main upgrade Sony says, is in the camera. The rear camera contains a standard 19 MP sensor and a monochrome 13 MP sensor. Data from both of these sensors allow Sony to raise the max ISO of the device all the way up to 51000. That means really low light shots will not be grainy as they tend to be in other flagships. Sony will also use the pair to introduce a Bokeh mode. A Samsung Galaxy S9 like 960 fps slow-mo video option has been added which lets you shoot even in 1080p. The front camera is a 13MP sharp selfie shooter.
Geeky specs aside, the phone has a beautiful design with 3d curved glass around the screen. The phone is water resistant and measures 158 x 80 x 11.9 mm in dimensions. It is available in two colors, Chrome Black and Chrome Silver.
The phone ticks all the boxes as a flagship and then some. There is, however, one complaint that we have. The phone has the age-old 16:9 aspect ratio when literally all companies have moved to higher ones. This also makes the Xperia XZ2 Premium have a bad screen-to-body ratio, even more than its own predecessor. Rest of the features do justify the sharp increase in price to $999. If you can ignore the aspect ratio factor, Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium is a great phone and will last you for long.
