Chuck Alum Zachary Levi is off to Toronto to start work on DC Comics’ upcoming superhero film Shazam. The film centers on a young boy named Billy Batson who can transform himself into a superhero by uttering the word “Shazam”. The character has superhuman strength, flight and speed abilities along with other powers.
Shazam is one of DC Comics’s most awaited properties as the studio still struggles to find production slates for its other films in its extended universe. As was reported earlier, Dwayne Johnson will not be appearing in the film as Shazam’s arch-nemesis “Black Adam” and will appear in his own spin-off movie.
DC fans have high hopes from Shazam as they look for that one film apart from Wonder Woman that will firmly establish DCEU as a genuine competition to Marvel’s cinematic universe. The film is scheduled to release on April 5, 2019, and is currently on track with cameras rolling from February 2018. It will be directed by David F. Sandberg who is known to direct low-budget but big box-office hits like Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation.
Zachary Levi is best known for his portrayal of Chuck Bartowski in NBC’s Chuck that made him a popular star and the series was praised for its comedy, humor, and story. The fans were divided once the casting for the titular character was announced but later on warmed up once they saw Levi’s enthusiasm for the character as well as his popularity amongst the geeks and comic book fans.
Zachary Levi also becomes one of those rare actors who has played a superhero in both Marvel & DC films. He also appeared as Fandral in Thor and its sequel. The actor will be in Toronto to prepare for his role as well as to shoot the film.
